As you know, the AOS leadership has been following the rapidly evolving COVID-19 global outbreak. This outbreak has now been classified as a pandemic by the WHO. The CDC is recommending avoiding non-essential travel and large gatherings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Several academic institutions have issued travel restrictions for their faculty. After careful consideration and approval by the Council, the AOS meeting scheduled for May 14-16, 2020 has been cancelled.
This decision has been solely based on the welfare of our members, guests and patients. The increasing number of confirmed cases provide a clear need to take this action.
We want to provide all attendees with ample time to manage their air travel and hotel reservations and we urge you to expedite your flight and hotel cancellations. If you have made a hotel reservation at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, please contact them immediately to cancel your reservation. Reservations can be cancelled without penalty up to 21 days in advance of your reservation. The AOS staff can assist you with hotel cancellations if needed.

This was an extremely difficult decision and many options were discussed and considered. However, the safety of our patients, their caregivers, and our members is our primary concern and responsibility. We are thankful to everyone who has worked tirelessly on the planning of this meeting. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work through the logistics of this decision. We will continue to provide information to those who are impacted by this cancellation.
