Richard Abbott, MD: Dr. Abbott was elected Secretary-General for Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI). The AOI is an international society of ophthalmology professors committed to global vision research, education, and service to enhance the quality of care for patients worldwide.

John Cameron, MD: Dr. Cameron received the Budd Appleton, MD Award for Service to Ophthalmology is a special recognition award given to the member of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology who has performed the highest service to the field of ophthalmology through patient care, public education, and political advocacy. The reward reads, in part, “J. Douglas Cameron, MD exemplifies this description through his dedication to serving our community with his skills as an ophthalmic pathologist and an administrator at multiple institutions, his love of teaching and his commitment to advancing the state of the art.”

Reza Dana, MD: Dr. Dana was awarded the RPB Stein Innovation Award. In addition, Dr. Dana was inducted into Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.

Frederick W. Fraunfelder, MD, MBA: Dr. Fraunfelder has been appointed assistant dean for faculty affairs at the MU School of Medicine, effective Sept. 1, 2018. Dr. Fraunfelder has served as chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and director of the Mason Eye Institute since 2014. 

Hans Grossniklaus, MD, MBA: Dr. Grossniklaus was elected to serve as the ARVO Anatomy/Pathology/Oncology Trustee. In addition, Dr. Grossniklaus is the Editor-in-Chief of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of the Eye.

Bennie Jeng, MD: Dr. Jeng has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Paul Kaufman, MD: Dr. Kaufman was awarded the Endre A. Balazs Prize. The Council of International Society of Eye Research (ISER) awards an International Prize to honor a distinguished scientist whose outstanding contributions provide significant progress in the field of experimental eye research. This prize honors Endre A. Balazs for his distinguished work in eye research and his contributions to ISER.

Timothy Y. Lai, MD, FRCOphth: Dr. Lai received the 2017 APVRS Constable Lecture Award from the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society (APVRS), presented at the APVRS congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Richard Alan Lewis, MD, MS: Dr. Lewis was the first non-pediatric ophthalmologist to be awarded the Marshall Parks Bronze Medal from the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at its Annual Meeting in March, 2018. He was recognized as the major intellectual force in applying molecular technologies to inherited ocular disorders, especially those afflicting infants, children, and adolescents, spanning from X-linked Nettleship-Falls Ocular Albinism to digenic triallelic Bardet-Biedl Syndromes.

Jennifer Lim, MD: Dr. Lim was named 2018 University of Illinois Chicago Faculty of the Year for Ophthalmology. Dr. Lim also received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Life Achievement Honor Award.

Louis Pasquale, MD: Dr. Pasquale was elected to serve as the ARVO Glaucoma Trustee.

David Wallace, MD, MPH: Dr. Wallace received the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for chairing the committee that revised three Preferred Practice Patterns modules: Amblyopia, Esotropia and Exotropia, and Pediatric Eye Evaluations.
